Blue Sheds
Images Description Credits
The Blue Sheds zig and zag through the crevices and voids, snaking in between, over, and around existing buildings to form a new ground plane in Beijing's Dashanzi Arts District. They subvert the straight roads of Dashanzi by employing the jogging movements of Beijing's hutongs (the walled alleyways unique to Beijing) to make more of the district accessible. They would stand as the new icons for Dashanzi and symbols of the possibilities of progressive architecture in China by setting a precedent for integrating new construction with adaptive re-use, challanging the current tear-down approach.
