Foothill College Campus Center
Images Description Credits
Set among the rolling hills east of San Jose, the new 40,000 SF Campus Center project is part of the first round of expansion and modernization to Ernest Kump and Peter Walker’s masterpiece since Foothill College’s inception in 1960. This specific architectural context required a solution which was in harmony with, but not subservient to, the existing abstracted Japanese temple design.  This is the first structure one experiences fully upon entering the campus grounds on the surrounding loop road and by linking to a ceremonial existing bridge, creates the first gateway into the college.

Program elements include creating a “Grand Hall” for the campus, food service, bookstore, student lounge, student government, student affairs, meeting rooms, security, health and psych services, and both formal and intimate outdoor gathering areas.
