| The Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute is located on the Health Sciences Campus of the University of Southern California, northeast of downtown Los Angeles. This 127,700 square foot research laboratory initiates a new design direction for the Keck School of Medicine with a unique architectural presence. In addition to this signature design, the building also responds in many practical, energy efficient ways to the climate in Southern California.
This structure will form a new research precinct for the medical campus. The precinct will center around a public plaza with an arcade along which occur lobbies, meeting rooms and a cafeteria.
The building’s exterior is a response to the existing modernist vocabulary of the health center and to solar orientation.
